I think leaving it out when plugged should be the best choice, unless the laptop only passes power to the battery when it's needed(doubt it)

Tommy, laptops' electronic circuits are made so that if you have the charger plugged in the electricity will first run through the motherboard and will be used as the laptop's power source and then what is left will go charge the battery ;)

Nowadays people shouldn't worry about the laptop's battery coz they are made to last around 1 year (in terms of hour usage... 24h X 365d) for me it takes around 4 years to reach that limit.. but even with that your batter will still be working but not in the extent it used to be.. imagine that now it provides you with around 4 hours portability ... after those 4 years of normal use it will provide you with portability of 30'-60' minutes ;)

To sum up, there is no need to worry :P do whatever you like ;)

I disagree, the battery's capacity will be crippled if it is all the time in the laptop when 100% charged, because it will always receive power,no matter how the laptop is designed.

say that to my 3 laptops... xD i am using laptops since 2003-2004 i think (yeah when i was 8 years old..) in total i have bought 3 laptops (the last one was bought this winter) all my laptops including the latest one are being used with plugged in charger and battery... i had no problems at all.. the 1st laptop was working for around 4 years (until my grandma broke the screen xD after that i was barely using it) then i bought the 2nd one.. which is still running (with too much lag though but that is my fault for overloading it..) my 2nd laptop's batter can provide aroun 1 hour portability now.. (when i bought it i could use it for 4 hours with no charger plugged in) but the fact that its "life" has shortened is due to the countless hours i've been working with it.. (total of 1 year and 4 months in the 4years i have it ;) )

P.S.1 : I am using my new laptop the same way... (don't think that manufacturers haven't thought about the charger and battery..)

P.S.2 : Why do you always have to disagree with whatever i say? ....

of course, dropping below 1 hour would be impossible,it has already suffered a 75% impairment, which (with the appropriate care)would be much less.

Batteries in laptops go with the number of charges you do...As long as you dont remove the cable it counts as one and only one charging period...Also new laptops definetelly dont charge the battery if its already full(Just think...How can a computer run and charge the same time?)...And its also safer to keep the battery plugged for possible failure of the cable or a blackout :D

try it out... buy a laptop use it for so many hours.. actually shut it down every 4 hours and wait one more for it to recharge and then start again your work.. with proper care you wouldn't even have 1 amv uploaded... xD

After 4 years of using it and as i said 13744hours.. there is no chance that your battery will keep on running for the same time it used to be when you bought it..

You're wrong for a number of reasons

1st,the computer interacts with the battery only by showing how much charged it is,so it passes power to the battery just from that

2nd,the laptop can run and charge the battery at the same time.If it didn't it would be considered a bad thing.

3rd,the battery will never be 100% charged,so the laptop will continue feeding it with power, steadily damaging the batary's power capacity in the long run.

For the love of god, laptops suck in every aspect. So get a desktop to edit.

are you kidding me? didn't i just tell you that electricity first runs through all the circuits and what is left goes charge the battery? ... which means that battery enters a "sleep" mode until you plug out the charger! which means that laptop is powered by the charger (as long as it is plugged in) and not by the battery ;)

A computer running and charging the same time means that its working properly yes...But i didn't say that...I'm saying that even if it charges, the computer is running using power comming from the cable and not the battery, thus meaning it does not use the battery immediatelly but as a mean to get power in case the cable is not connected...I've been working this summer in a laptop repair center and the only cases of battery problems we had were that the guys using the laptop were just using different adaptor with different properties than the one provided by the manufacturer...As for desktop vs laptop, desktop is definetelly better without a question

Guys,if the battery is plugged in the laptop,it is going to get some power from it,one way or the other,i already listed two ways

You won't have a problem severe enough to visit a repair centre, the problem will be the reduction in the battery's output, meaning that when the battery is powering the laptop, the battery will last less time than before.

and for once again i'll tell you...

when the charger is plugged in your laptop is programmed to be sourced by the charger.. not the battery... the electronic circuits of the motherboard are designed in a way that if you plug in the charger the electricity comming from it will first become the power source for the laptop and then (what is left) will recharge the battery..

P.S. i;ve been studying stuff like that (as well as designing electronic circuits for the past year) i know what i am talking about :P

YEAH SURE SWEETBEJEZUS

You think that means NO FUCKING POWER is passed from the laptop to the battery? How does the laptop even check if the battery is plugged in and it's 100% capacity(which as i've already told you,it never bloody is)
Power is being passed, and it's severing the damn battery's capacity, otherwise the battery wouldn't even be detachable,it would forever stay on the laptop and no worries.

Thanks for the replies guys. I really appreciate it.
I bought the laptop because it had a decent spec and was quite cheap. So far the laptop has beat my expectations and I just want to look after it so I was asking you guys for your opinons.

Thanks again
